Barrie Strange, President of Oxfordshire AA, passed away on Tuesday 9th June 2009 at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford, following a battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.

Hi all

Apologies for the comparatively short notice, but I am planning to run a Level 1 Assistant Officials course at Radley College on Tuesday 21 April 2009 (6.30 - 9.30 pm).

I need to be sure I have sufficient numbers, so there is a deadline for applications: 11 April 2009. All applicants need to complete and return to me the attached licence application form - remembering to include a passport photo, and sending a cheque for £10 (made payable to England Athletics).

The course is suitable for relative newcomers to the sport, eg parents who want to help and/or officiate at meetings. I always advise Level 2 entry (bypassing Level 1) for those with good experience of officiating (even in an unqualified capacity).

" The Midland region final of the English Schools Combined Events Championships takes place on the Horspath Road track on the weekend of 27th & 28th June 2009. If you attend an Oxfordshire school, and wish to be considered for the Oxfordshire Schools' team for this, our home fixture, please contact Glynis Wheatcroft (wheatcroft@waitrose.com) by 31st May."

A gallant run by Oxfordshire star Melissa Hawtin gave her a well deserved bronze
medal in the U17 Women's race in the McCain UK Inter Counties Cross-Country
Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham . In cool, dry conditions the Oxford
City athlete coped well with the testing course to lead her team to 21st place from the
35 competing teams from all over Great Britain.
The best team results for Oxfordshire went to went to the U13 & U15 Girls' teams
who both finished 15th from the 40 or so teams taking part. The U13 Girls were led
home by Beth Hawtin (9th) and the U15 Girls by Imogen Kempton (45th).
Tom Biegel was first Oxon U13 Boy home in 29th place whilst Harry Robertson led
in the U15 Boys in 69th. Jacob Simmons had a strong run for 77th in the Under 17
Men's race.

Team manager Paul Kelsey feels that the flying Hawtin sisters represent Oxfordshire’s best hopes for honours in the junior events at the CAU Inter Counties Cross-Country Championships at Woollaton Park, Nottingham on Saturday.

Oxford City athletes Melissa (under 17 women), Lauren (under 15 girls) and Beth (under 13 girls) who finished sixth, 18th & sixth respectively at the English Championships last weekend, are all in good form.

Connie McMillan (Banbury) and Imogen Kempton (Oxford City) are both expected to do well in the under 15 girls' race, giving their team an excellent chance.

In view of the weather forecast, the schools cross country scheduled for Radley College on Tuesday 10th Feb has been re-scheduled for Tuesday 24th Feb.
